Amazing Race Wrapup

Apex Winter Olympics at Otter Lake
January 2007

The management team arrived just
after lunch so they could literally dig out the
Aspen which was buried in snow and ice. All this
effort seemed to go unnoticed by our Apex reps
who have grown to expect first class treatment
on an Apex event.
After an evening of no-holds barred Risk and
poker, all participants woke up for a hearty meal
prepared by Micheline and her
team of Feenie Wanna-be's. After
breakfast it was time for the Apex Winter Olympics
to begin.
First event, the Cross Country Challenge short
course that featured a descent, jumps, a roundabout
and a steep climb to finish the race. Chad
Bennett (Team Orser, Browning,
Boitano & Harding) took 1st place
honors in this event edging out Arron
Rigden and Team Miracle on Ice.
Side story: Apex's own Canadian bodybuilding entrant
Tyrone Ashmeade sets an Apex
record for longest attempt on completing the course.
Who knew 250 lb. bodybuilders weren't designed
for Cross Country Skis?
Curling was next up. For the curling event, the
Managers constructed a man-made Curling rink with
milk jugs - although posting top scores in the
shoot off, heavy favourites Smoke &
Fire were knocked out by a single shot
from the eventual winners Team Greg's
Mom.
Rhino Race - pre-race favorite Andrew
Westlund was seen taking a few test runs
before the event which helped him edge out the
closest competitor by 3 seconds.
Apex Outdoor Hockey - Managers vs. The Reps -
does it get any better than this? Once the zamboni
gave us a fresh sheet of ice, the national anthem
was sung and Team Captains posed for the honorary
faceoff it was time for action. The managers dominated
start to finish posting a convincing 15-9 victory.
The Game's 3 Stars:
- Super-pest Gerry Leiper was
his usual annoying self, hacking and whacking
every player in sight.
- Jay Lundgren for managing
to keep his impressive winning streak alive
as a starting goaltender.
- Rookie Jim Franklin for coming
to the aid of his goalie and aquainting himself
nicely in a heavyweight tilt with rep Kit
O'Kane.
The event-filled day was capped off with the
Apex Figure Skating Competition. Defending champs
Jamie Moniz and Jason
Cross again showed us why they took 1st
place in the overall competition last year, but
word is...... there was a corrupt judge sitting
on the judging panel. After Patty and
Patrick's eery but popular and
technically flawless rendition of The Eye of the
Tiger, it quickly became apparant that the judges
preferred the mano-a-mano action coming from TEAM
(OBB&H) skaters Jay Lundgren and
Chad Bennett. Even Fayyaz
who botched the grab and watched his
partner Kit plummet to the ice
and seperating his/her shoulder received favourable
scores. Both Jamie &
Jason were overheard complaining bitterly.....
"Was this a sympathy score??? What does Brunjes
know about Technical Merit...... Who's
that Russian judge anyways?"
The evening ended without controversy as everyone
settled into some good old fashioned karaoke and
outside entertainment with Crazyman Rob
Robertson wakeboarding behind a snowmobile
and jumping the deck of Aspen Lodge.
Congrats to the winning team. TEAM (OBB&H)
whose members consist of Capt. Jay Lundgren,
Chad Bennett, Rob Robertson,
Michelle Dreger, Eric
Carriere, Bill Brunjes and
Ed Klick. They are this year's
winners of $1,000.
